... Raoul Dufy
Rauol

A

Rauol Dufy is one of my favorite artists. Besides being a painter, is a designer, maker and decorator fabrics. Finally, a complete artist.
One of his most important works and my favorite, can be seen for free at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
La Fée électrique is a giant pane of 10 meters by 60 meters and is placed in the central hall of the museum.
The work was commissioned by the French power company (EDF) for the Universal Exhibition of 1937, at Champs de Mars and tells the story of electricity and its applications since its beginning to their more modern techniques (at thet time, of course).
The designs blend among others, the painter's favorite subjects: sailboats, birds and July 14th Ball, with Greek gods amid power plants, portraits of inventors and scholars who contributed to the discovery and development of electricity.
It is a fascinating work! The painting is beautiful and impressive for its size, richness of color and detail drawings. The panel was made in just 10 months, a record time for the size and detail of the work. Donated by EDF, this painting was installed at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris in 1964.
